State newspaper seems bewildered that CBS picked SC game

Did you get a load of The State's Seth Emerson in his Monday article? http://www.thestate.com/gamecocks/story/175666.html

Emerson writes (or should I say opines): "It (SC State) felt like another lackluster nonconference win to the South Carolina football team.

Evidently, CBS and the poll voters did not notice, and now the Gamecocks face their most high-profile game in some time.

"Emerson seems to be saying: How could CBS choose a top 15 SC team versus No. 2 LSU for their top game of the week??? Doesn't CBS know that SC is but a pretender that us at The State have no confidence in?

Emerson also writes: "But (SC remaining in the Top 15) will be difficult with the current state of the Gamecocks’ passing game, which continued to puzzle...

Why is Emerson so "puzzled?" Didn't his colleague at The State (Joe Person) continually harp on SC's losses (3 starters) on the offensive line? Not to mention the Gamecocks lost arguably the best wide receiver in all of college football in Sidney Rice.

Beating LSU in Baton Rouge would be extremely difficult even for Southern Cal., but you know Steve Spurrier believes he can win there. He has accomplished bigger feats.

The odds are against Spurrier and the young Gamecocks, but if they could somehow pull it off, you have to believe the clowns at the State newspaper would have to wipe egg off their faces for weeks.

Just to see that, along with columnist Ron Morris' reaction, may even prompt me to spend a buck-fifty on that paper for the first time in years.
