Gamecocks in no-lose situation with LSU Saturday

Suppose SC is beaten at Baton Rouge. That's what everybody expects.
Sure, The State newspaper will be full of glee, and ready to write a 'Certificate of Failure' for the Steve Spurrier era.
But unlike Georgia - a game that the Gamecocks had to win - LSU is much less imperative.
The Gamecocks can beat anyone else on their schedule. If they do that, they could very well play LSU in December.
If that happens, you have to look back at the 1996 season when Spurrier's Florida team lost to FSU in November, then routed the Noles in January for the National championship.
You may have to ask yourself: Would you rather beat LSU in September or beat them in December?
Of course there are a lot of things that could happen between now and December, but losing to LSU Saturday is not the end of the world, as many of our media will proclaim it to be.
That being said: A win in Baton Rouge would be nice, too.
But I will not sweat the LSU game like I did the Georgia game.

Thats exactly the way I have been looking at this game. With the way LSU has been winning games this year, if we just keep it respectable it is almost like a win but thats not the way it will be portrayed in The State or on the Taterneck websites. I'm less nervous about this game than any so far this season because as you stated the rest were must wins. I hope the team approaches it the same way and plays loose and agressive. Its a must win for LSU.
